Cover Reveal: Pearl Harbor and More – Stories of World War II: December 1941

cover-flat

I’m involved in a collection of short stories to be published in early November to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Pearl Harbor, which took place on 7th December 1941. The devastating surprise attack by Japanese fighter planes on the U.S. naval base in Hawaii led to America’s entry into World War II.

In Praise of Procrastination

View from the window - an invitation to procrastinate
View from the window – an invitation to procrastinate

I am a procrastinator par excellence. My motto is, “Why do something today if you can put it off until tomorrow?” I wrote my university essays at midnight, fuelled by industrial-strength coffee; I submit my competition entries at the last minute; and I’m often to be found tapping away frantically with a client’s deadline looming only hours away.

I’m very pleased to welcome back my friend and fellow Crooked Cat author Sue Barnard – who is also my editor! She is a lady of many talents and has a range of short stories, poems and three published novels to her credit. She wrote a great guest post for me a while ago about the role of the editor. Now, let’s hear a bit more about her writing and, in particular, her latest novel, The Unkindest Cut of All

My guest today is another Crooked Cat Publishing author whom I had the pleasure of meeting at last year’s CC get-together. Despite working full time and commuting to London, June finds the time to write short stories and novels. And her amusing observations from her commuting experiences have regularly been in a mainstream newspaper’s ‘Scribbler About Town’ column. Let’s find out how she juggles all this.

Relatively Speaking…

Front cover final 2

I loathe promoting myself and always have done. I was brought up not to boast, not to push myself forward and never to ask for things for myself. Not a good training for an author these days, eh? With gritted teeth, I have launched myself on social media and, while I do enjoy blogging, I find Twitter and Facebook difficult to get to grips with, although strangely addictive. But I have a secret weapon…

Joining me today is a lovely lady whom I had the pleasure of meeting at last year’s Crooked Cat author bash. Nancy Jardine is a prolific author who squeezes more out of each day than anyone else I know. She wrote a great guest post for me about using photos and I’m delighted to welcome her back for a session on the chaise longue.

Today I’m delighted to welcome an author who also lives in France, but on the other side near Lyon. Liza Perrat and I know each other only virtually, but somehow I feel I  know her better than that already! She is the author of two terrific historical novels set in France. I eagerly await the third in the trilogy, which is due out this summer. Liza tells us more about them below.

Today, it’s my great pleasure to welcome fellow Crooked Cat author Emma Mooney to the chaise longue. Emma lives near Edinburgh with her husband and three children. Despite these distractions, she published her first novel, A Beautiful Game, in 2014, which has had excellent reviews. She says she enjoys ‘exploring the grittier side of fiction’.
