Following on from the success of 100 Stories for Haiti, which was published in aid of the international relief effort following the Haiti disaster earlier this year, the energetic Greg McQueen is publishing 50 Stories for Pakistan. The aim is similar. Proceeds from the book will go to the relief fund to aid people made homeless by the flooding in Pakistan this year.
Greg put out an appeal on 9th September for writers to donate short stories on any subject for the anthology. The only stipulation was that there should be no death, violence or destruction. Nearly 250 writers submitted a story, following which Greg and his team of volunteer editors had the hard task of selecting a longlist.
My short story, The Sparkler, was lucky enough to get into the longlist of 54, announced today, along with stories by three of my colleagues from Writers Abroad. I’m now biting my nails in the hope that I am not one of the unlucky four whose stories won’t be on the final shortlist of 50.
